Getting injured on the job in Illinois is never easy. Even though you will have time to recover from the injury, you really don’t want to miss a lot of time at work. Doing so will cause you to incur a lot of debt due to unpaid medical bills and other financial issues. Workers’ compensation payments can help to pay some of these bills but won’t be able to cover everything. Here are the steps to take if you are injured on the job.

You need to report the incident and injury immediately to a supervisor or to the safety officer named in your company’s safety policies. Don’t let an injury go unreported, even if it is a minor one that doesn’t require hospitalization. You also need to seek medical care as soon as possible.

Try to have someone take pictures of the area where the accident occurred. The pictures should be of the conditions of the area, any evidence and anything else that could have played a role in the accident that caused an injury.

If other employees witnessed the accident that led to your injury, make sure you speak with them. Ask them to tell their side of the story to the supervisor handling the investigation of the accident. These workers should be willing to put their statement in writing to make the situation easier to investigate.

Suffering a work-related injury can be a difficult time in life for those who live in O’Fallon. Make sure you report the accident immediately and seek medical attention so that your claim is not denied.
