Rural roads in Illinois were the site of a recent collision between a pair of pickup trucks. One of the drivers was killed in the accident.

According to reports, the accident happened near Sink Hollow Road on IL 2. The first emergency crews to get the call were the Lee County Sheriff’s Department (LCSD).

Officers came to the scene and determined that one truck was headed northbound with a 68-year-old man behind the wheel. The other pickup was southbound and driven by a man, 60. The southbound truck appears to have drifted over the center line and crossing into the northbound lane where the two trucks collided head-on.

The older man was transported to a nearby hospital by first responders. However, he succumbed to his injuries. His passenger suffered injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

The 60-year-old man in the other truck suffered serious injuries. He was taken by helicopter to OSF Saint Francis.

Though the LCSD appear to have taken the initial call, they received assistance from the Dixon City Police Department (DCPD), the Dixon Rural Fire Department (DRFD), the Dixon City Fire Department (DCFD), the Illinois State Police (ISP), LifeFlight and Advance Ambulance.

It does not take very long for a routine drive to turn into a tragedy that results in serious injuries and even death. Those who get injured — as well as the survivors of those who were killed — need to make sure they know all of the legal rights they have when filing claims for damages after an accident caused by another person’s negligence.
