Authorities had to close down the northbound lanes of I-270 in St. Louis County after a serious car accident. Three different vehicles were involved in the crash, leading to significant injuries, and authorities had to block the road to assist the injured and clear the wreckage.

Reports indicate that the accident happened right around 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec 11. They did not report exactly how many people suffered serious injuries.

The shutdown began near Clayton Road. It was so bad that traffic lined up behind it for miles. By 2:00 p.m., they were able to get some lanes open again so that traffic could proceed. It still took until 4:00 p.m. before the entire highway was opened up again.

The reasons for the accident have not yet been released.

Pictures from the scene show numerous firetrucks and other emergency vehicles sitting in the northbound lanes. A yellow utility truck is blocking traffic and there are emergency workers in high-visibility vests walking in the lanes. One shot shows a red car strapped on the back of a truck, which is also towing a dark-color minivan. You can see glass and other debris on the roadway.

On packed roads, it does not take long for multiple vehicles to collide and put people in the hospital. At the same time, the resulting backup then puts everyone else in danger, as secondary accidents in a traffic jam are a real threat. Those who get hurt due to the negligence of others need to know all the legal options they have to seek financial compensation.
