Pedestrian gets hit by car, suffers life-threatening injuries

A man in Illinois was just trying to cross the street when he was hit by a car. The injuries he suffered in the accident are considered life-threatening, and reports claim he is “fighting for his life.”

The incident took place on a Tuesday night, right around 9:29 p.m. A car was going down Wall Street in Carbondale, heading north, as the man attempted to walk across the road. The vehicle hit the man, and emergency services were called.

When they arrived, they quickly brought him to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. After that, a helicopter took him to Barnes Jewish Hospital because he needed such extensive treatment. That medical center is in St. Louis, Missouri.

News crews went to the scene, but they were not sure exactly what vehicle had hit the man. They did say, however, that they saw a vehicle that had a clear dent in it. The vehicle had a sign on the top reading “Insomnia Cookies.” Again, though, they could not confirm if that was the vehicle that actually hit the man or not.

Reports did say that the driver did not suffer any injuries. The investigation is ongoing, but the police said there could be charges at the end of that investigation.

The response teams that came to the scene included the Jackson County Ambulance service, the Carbondale Police Department and the Carbondale Fire Department.

This story helps show how simple things that we do every day, like crossing the street, can have such dire consequences. If you lose a loved one or suffer serious injuries, be sure you know what legal steps to take.
