Multiple people are in the hospital, and one man is dead, after a serious accident in Illinois.
The crash happened when a 74-year-old man lost control of his pickup truck, according to reports. He drove over the centerline and slammed into a van that was coming the opposite direction.
In the truck with the elderly driver was an 86-year-old man from Illinois. He is the one who passed away in the wreck.
The driver of the truck had to be rushed to a medical center to get treatment for serious injuries. The same is true for three people who had been riding in the van. The van's driver suffered such serious injuries that they had to be taken by helicopter to a Peoria medical center.
After the crash, which took place out on Route 41, the Illinois State Police had to close to the road down for cleanup. This process took a few hours. They also worked to determine fault in the accident, giving that pickup truck driver multiple citations for not wearing a seat belt, improper lane usage and not slowing down in an effort to prevent or avoid a crash.
You often feel safe and secure while driving. Perhaps you trust your own skill and your own experience. You feel like you're in control.
While you may be in control of your vehicle, you can never control all possible factors that can lead to an accident. All it takes is one mistake by another driver to put you in the hospital. Afterward, you need to know how to seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages and other costs.
